2025: A Year of Growth and Deepened Impact for DC Peace Team

At DC Peace Team, 2025 marked a powerful year of growth, learning, and community impact. As the need for nonviolent intervention and community-based safety continues to rise, so has our commitment to meeting that moment.

Over the past year, we expanded our training efforts by 35%, equipping more community members than ever with the tools of de-escalation, nonviolent communication, and conflict transformation. We also introduced new and timely offerings, including Recontextualizing Nonviolence in a Culture of White Supremacy and Embodied Nonviolence, deepening the ways we engage with both personal and systemic dimensions of conflict.

Our on-the-ground presence grew as well. In 2025, we launched a Community Safety Unit at a second Farmers Market in Langley Park, bringing trained de-escalators directly into public spaces where community care and safety matter most.

Perhaps most striking was the surge in demand for our Unarmed Civilian Protection (UCP) work. Requests for support from independent organizations jumped from 9 in 2024 to 42 in 2025—a clear signal that communities are seeking alternatives to traditional models of safety. Our teams have stepped in to provide real-time de-escalation and protective presence in a wide range of situations, helping to prevent harm and build trust.

This year’s annual report brings these numbers to life through stories from the field. You’ll find real examples of de-escalation led by our UCP teams, a feature on Nonviolent Communication Trainer Amanda Munroe, and a spotlight honoring the donors and partners who made this work possible.

We invite you to read the full report and see how collective action, rooted in nonviolence, is shaping safer communities every day.
